# App configuration

> Configure models, devices, themes, reminders, voice, startup behavior, and the Taskbean PWA.

The app stores configuration in `~/.taskbean/config.json`.

## Core settings

| `runOnStartup` | `false` | Register or remove the Windows startup task. |
| `port` | `null` | Use the default `8275` unless you set a port. |
| `publicBaseUrl` | `null` | Override the URL the app presents to launchers and integrations. |
| `timezone` | `null` | Use an IANA time zone or the OS default. |
| `hideIncompatibleModels` | `false` | Hide models that do not match detected hardware. |

Speech settings control the engine, fallback, microphone, Whisper model, live model, and whether a transcript composes text or extracts tasks. Schedule settings control Do Not Disturb and recurring-reminder hours.

## Themes

| Black Coffee | Maximum contrast with coffee-tinted blacks |

The CSS identifiers are `dark-roast`, `latte`, `espresso`, and `black-coffee`. Dark Roast is the default.

## Model switching

Use the model picker in Settings. A switch is locked so only one can run at a time. Taskbean unloads the current model, downloads the selected model when needed, loads it, rebuilds the agent, and runs a smoke test before reporting success.

Model switching is a Settings workflow, not a chat tool.

## Reminders

On Windows, Taskbean can send toast notifications with **Done**, **Snooze**, and **Open** actions. Do Not Disturb suppresses toasts. If `winotify` is unavailable, Taskbean logs the event instead of failing.

## File extraction

Paste long text or upload documents to extract candidate tasks. Taskbean uses MCP and MarkItDown conversion, token-aware chunking, and local AI. Review extracted tasks before treating them as commitments.
